Registered Acupuncturist & Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner
Traditional Chinese Medicine built around one idea: that every person is their own best healer, and the job is to help that along.
Rui Yao is a Registered Acupuncturist and a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner at Sunshine Wellness.
Her practice rests on a straightforward belief: every person is their own best healer. As she describes it, her role is to activate that capacity using whichever methods suit the person in front of her rather than running everyone through the same protocol.
In practice that means a session might draw on acupuncture, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping, tuina massage or gua sha, on their own or in combination. Which of those appear depends on what she finds when she takes your history.
People come to Rui with pain, with stress, with sleep and digestive concerns, and with questions about fertility. The first appointment runs 90 minutes precisely because that history takes time, and it happens before any needles.
Treatments are quiet and unhurried, and she brings a lot of warmth to them. Follow-up sessions run 60 minutes. Both are HST exempt.
Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at the whole picture rather than one complaint in isolation, so expect questions about sleep, appetite and stress even if you came in about your shoulder.
First visits are longer because they include a full intake. Please avoid arriving on an empty stomach.
