A detailed 60 minute appointment that identifies what is affecting your running or contributing to injury, and sends you home with a plan to address it.
It falls under the coverage of chiropractic treatment: a 60 minute appointment that looks at how you actually move. Running is too fast for the eye to catch the detail, so your stride is filmed and reviewed frame by frame alongside a hands-on joint and strength screen and a look at the shoes you train in.
It is provided by Dr. Caleb Beland, DC, a chiropractor and competitive runner who raced varsity cross country and track. You leave with a written plan rather than a diagnosis and a follow-up booking.
Four parts, run in order, inside the same 60 minutes.
You run on the treadmill in our clinic while Dr. Caleb films you from behind and from the side. The footage is then slowed down and reviewed with you, so you can see your own stride rather than just be told about it. He looks at how your foot strikes the ground, what your knees and hips are doing, your stride length and cadence, and how your trunk and arms are moving.
A hands on assessment of the joints and muscles that matter most for running, including your ankles, hips and core. Stiffness in one area and weakness in another often show up as a problem somewhere else entirely, which is why the video alone is not enough.
Bring the shoes you actually run in. Dr. Caleb will look at the wear pattern, the type of shoe and how it suits your gait, and talk through what to look for in your next pair.
You leave with recommendations written for you, covering gait retraining cues, specific exercises, any treatment that would help, and guidance on shoe selection.
No. The assessment is just as useful for someone starting out as it is for a marathoner. You run at your own comfortable pace.
Running clothes you can move in, and the running shoes you wear most often. Shorts are helpful so your knees are visible on video.
60 minutes, $160.
No referral is needed to see a chiropractor in Ontario.
The assessment is a full 60 minutes on its own. If treatment would help, that is usually booked as a separate follow up appointment.
